Sonya Schryer Norris


Sonya has proudly served the Library of Michigan in a variety of capacities for over 20 years. She is an accomplished project manager, website administrator, and technology trainer. She makes regular presentations on a range of topics both regionally and nationally. Sonya has multiple publications to her credit, both professional and personal. She has a passion for librarianship and works consistently to improve her skills and provide services to Michigan libraries that evolve to meet staff needs.

  • Served as primary reader adviser to one third of patron base, approximately 1,300 readers
  • Administered state-wide volunteer narration program
  • Resolved patron record discrepancies among 10 libraries statewide across three automated library systems through analysis of computer-generated reports and follow-up communications with library staff
  • Supervised one part-time student employee

Sonya converted the volunteer narration program from analog to digital; wrote program manual and created database to track program progress to deliver a product that eventually became a part of the national download system.

She directed Governor Jennifer Granholm three times in recording the Michigan Reads! One-State, One-Children’s Book.
